Man Of The House - Vernon Rust

Here is Vernon Rust singing his original composition, "Man of the House", from the Keith Urban album, The Ranch.  A mournful love song about a desperate affair:

"Cause he stays so busy with his money
And you, you get so lonely when he's gone
And me, I'm just your temporary lover
'Til your blues are gone
I'm the man of the house whenever he ain't home
"

Vernon wrote this during a period of high achievement after discovering and teaming with Keith Urban to write many songs, ten of which made it onto the little known but highly acclaimed album The Ranch.

He says that he wrote this song about an affair several years before it actually happened to him.  Sad and lonely, it still paints a dark but lovely canvas.  (more after the jump)

I shot this in September in Nashville in a rooming house where Vernon and Helen were staying, for the documentary, Nashville Wild Child.  You can see Helen, his constant companion and partner, sitting on the couch with him.  Today they are living in a car parked in various Walmart parking lots.  They say that Walmart allows travelers to overnight in their parking lots.

I was pretty happy with the way this came out using my  iPhone and 8mm app, while Scott Crain worked with our professional cameras.  See what you think.
